A photographer and his group set out in the dead of winter for the Alaskan wilderness to take advantage of the limited, but beautiful daylight. They are met by an experienced hunter and local lodge owner who instills fear within the group by telling them the legend of Maneater, a bear that has fangs and claws sharper than man made metal.
Sherilyn Fenn’s character, Doctor Lindvahl, states that polar bears don’t hibernate in winter. This is partially untrue. Pregnant female polar bears dig a snow den, give birth, and emerge three months later. During this time, they live off their fat reserves. But they don’t hibernate in the strict sense of the word. True hibernators experience a marked drop in heart rate and body temperature.
